Wedding Cake Traditions

The wedding breakfast is one tradition that has been passed from generation to generation, surviving the influence of modern wedding culture. This wedding breakfast is not a morning meal it could be in anytime of the day when the wedding reception starts. Couples would only eat when their wedding comes and that’s the wedding breakfast but this is just the old terminology. In the modern setting, we now call it the wedding reception. But as far as the modern setting, the couple need not fast anymore because with all the preparations and the wedding ceremony, it would really help if you eat something and put something on your tummy, otherwise, passing out on your wedding day is totally a bad idea.

The way that cakes are created has now evolved into something more fun and exciting. They are now created with fruit fillings covered in frost icing with sugar and fat. The reason why during those times cakes were covered in heavy frosting is to preserve the cake since refrigerators have not yet been invented.

Now we go to the loveliest part of the wedding ceremony which is the slicing of the cake. In the traditional setting, the wedding cake is sliced by the bride and the groom. This tradition is then followed by the bride’s part where she serves every one with the slices of the cake. This symbolizes the act of transferring the bride’s labour to her family. This also implies her show of service to her husband. The bride and the groom are the first to eat from the cake, this shows that the bride has now emancipated from her old family and is now facing another challenge in life with her new family.

The layering of cake with fruit filling has however not become very popular nowadays because everything will be eaten by the guest long before the wedding day ends. Therefore, there really is no need to put those tiered layers with fruitcake as it won’t ever get spoiled. It is consumed on the same wedding day, unlike the traditional wedding cakes where the top part is a fruitcake and the need to frozen it arises. The tradition on topper started in the old times when the bride was looking for the best wedding symbol on her wedding day. So what the father had thought was placed something in the cake top a symbol of marriage. It has already become so popular now the figurine of two figures, the bride and the groom.
